Fairtrade International - Co-lead on a systematic evidence review
2024-25, Germany, Global Programmes

This research included a systematic review of academic and grey literature that speaks to the effectiveness of the work of Fairtrade International and other Voluntary Sustainability Standards setting organisations. The work included a review of about 150 publications, rating this evidence and mapping the content against Fairtrade’s Theory of Change, which was subsequently validated with staff and stakeholders through a series of interactive online focus group discussions. The final Evidence Map and related research outputs (report and presentation) serve as technical input for the organisation’s upcoming strategy review and update to the Theory of Change. The report is published here.

Agence Française de Développement - Project management and capacity building of grantees of the Ethiopian Civil Society Innovation Fund
2022-25, Ethiopia

The purpose of the Agence Française de Développement’s (AFD) funded Civil Society Innovation Fund (CSIF) has been to diversify the civil society space in Ethiopia, and encourage innovation, through targeted support to three consortia of 15 new and emerging civil society organisations (CSOs), addressing historically underserved thematic areas including Human Rights, Gender and Media. INTRAC together with local Ethiopian partner AGAR has led the Coordination and Management of CSIF, Provision of Grant Management Support to CSOs, and Capacity Development of CSOs. In my role, as INTRAC’s Programme Coordinator, I have been working in close consultation with the Programme Director (UK based) and the Programme Manager (Ethiopia based), additional tasks related to MEL including development of a Theory of Change and Theory of Action, ongoing programme coordination, bi-annual reporting and hosting of strategic meetings. Now, at programme end, I am involved with consolidating learning into a Learning Digest and inputting into the final programme report. The role has involved frequent travel to Ethiopia.

Newcastle University - MEL advice for the Water Security and Sustainable Development Hub.
2022-23, Colombia, Ethiopia, India, Malaysia, UK

INTRAC has provided consultancy support to Newcastle University to monitor evaluate and learn on an international and interdisciplinary research project focussing on water security. The Water Security and Sustainable Development Hub was a UKRI-funded project that connected UK universities (Newcastle, Leeds, Oxford) with interdisciplinary ‘collaboratories’ in Malaysia, India, Colombia and Ethiopia. As independent consultant I worked directly with one of INTRAC MEL consultants to be ‘a critical friend’ to the programme by providing an external perspective on the impact of the hub’s work, as well as the hub processes, particularly in developing capacity for collaboration, interdisciplinary working, intersectional research and ensuring a fair and equal partnership between northern and southern institutions. Work included a mixed method partnership assessment based on an online survey and series of FDGs, and an evaluability assessment/data review, as well as a systematic social network analysis of the Water Hub.
